Welcome Back

Welcome Back

Hello. It’s been a while.

Let’s get to the meat of it. Sketching Details will be returning in August. The goal is one post a week because of the content we’re shifting to.

Sketching Details stands with the WGA, SAG, and AFTRA. That means no struck productions will be covered at the site until the contracts are resolved.

That also means the site will be shifting to more of a book, gaming, comics, art, and theatre focus. As a writer, as a performer, as an artist, I’m not crossing the picket line. Believe me, there are dozens of films and shows I want to write about. That will wait until after the strike.

The guidelines to support the strikes are easy for a non-union member. You can watch what you want; when the strike succeeds, they will get more money from those ticket sales/streams retroactively. You cannot provide publicity to struck productions. For me, that means no video or written content about those films. Indie films are fine (A24 already got a waiver to continue production on their films), but the US system is messy and so many films wind up caught in the (now struck) Hollywood studio system for distribution.

Books, games, and comics, especially, take longer to write about. I’m happy to put the work in, but I also need to be reasonable. I go back to work for pre-service teaching days at the end of August, then I’m a full time teacher again through June 2024. One post a week (even when films/TV are ok) is still a lot on top of lesson planning, grading, research, PD, calls home, training, etc.

I will hopefully have something exciting to share with you come mid-September. Fingers crossed.
