Introducing Home Sweet Home: Survive

Home Sweet Home: Survive is a new asymmetrical 4v1 multiplayer horror game. Horror fans might recognize the name of the game. This is a new project from the developers of Home Sweet Home, a viral sensation of a single player survivor horror game from Thailand.

In Home Sweet Home, a man’s wife goes missing. He turns to alcohol to help him through his depression while trying to find his wife. One day, he wakes up in an alternate dimension, where all the terrifying figures of folklore are real and determined to kill any mortal that crosses into their realm. He must use rituals he finds supplies for along the way to exorcise the spirits and survive.

Home Sweet Home: Survive builds on that same premise. The team of four survivors—some from the original games, some brand new—search chests on a map for ritual supplies. Once they acquire incense and a nail, the ritual can begin. They pray at altars hidden throughout the map to complete the ritual. Once three altars are complete, the portals are unlocked that can free them from the specter’s realm. Alternatively, the survivors can use the various weapons and traps they discovered throughout the match to exorcise the specter through brute force. Escaping or defeating the specter is the win condition.

For the Spector, they have to hunt and kill the four survivors to win. Killing a survivor the first time releases their soul on the map. If no one picks it up in and revives them with a ritual in two minutes, they’re gone for good. One specific survivor, Jane, can revive herself, but no survivor gets a third chance at life. Specters can turn invisible, allowing them to see auras of survivors on the map. They also each have a unique attack to let them take down the survivors who foolishly entered their realm.

Home Sweet Home: Survive is balanced more like a fighting game. Each character has unique stats for attack, endurance, and health (among other factors). Additionally, each survivor has their own ability, which means each character plays in a very different way as survivor and specter. One survivor has a camera that lets them blind the specter; another can see the specter when they go invisible.

Home Sweet Home: Survive is an early access game that picked up a surprisingly large audience very quickly. The game became popular through Twitch and YouTube gameplay despite only originally having servers based in Thailand. The developers are growing the capabilities of the game as fast as they can, with servers added in Europe and the West Coast of the United States.

Currently, the game has three specters. Belle is the boxcutter-wielding spirit from the original Home Sweet Home game. The Prisoner is a beast of a specter, attacking survivors with a hook that pulls them in for an attack from a great distance away. The Nymph is a water-based spirit that attacks with projectiles orbs of water. There are also seven survivors and two maps.

We know that there is a third map, a graveyard, and a fourth specter coming to the game soon.

As with every early access game, things can and do change over time. It is early days for Home Sweet Home: Survive. I just think this is a game worth checking out already or at least keeping your eye on for the future.

Home Sweet Home: Survive is in early access on Steam.
